As a fan of Photoshop, I appreciate that this premium app offers similar functionality.
PXL is a lightweight tool that allows you to pixelize Instagram images. Choose between 9 distinctive styles, and instantly transform your image into an abstract composition.
While this tool is very limited in it’s capabilities, it does bring a unique look to your graphics. Simply pinch to change the image resolution or shake your device to randomly compile an image out of the 9 pre-created styles.
Tangent is a great app for those that want to remove the monotony from their Instagram feed and instead use numerous patterns and shapes to create one of a kind images.

Combine with shapes, scale, rotate and position at will. Colorize your creations with a huge palette to choose from including many popular blend modes for layering.
Want to combine two pictures into one? You can with Superimpose! Easily blend or juxtaposed images in just the tap of the button.
Here is how it works:
1. Load a background image.
2. Load a foreground image.
3. Mask out unwanted portion of the foreground image using wide range of masking tools.
4. Smoothen the edges with smoothen tool inside the app, if required.
5. Move, Scale, Resize, Rotate, Flip the foreground to place it on the right location on the background image.
6. Adjust the colors/exposure/contrast/hue/saturation etc. of the foreground and the background images if required to match both the images in terms of colors.
7. You are done! Save it to the photo library at full resolution or share it on Facebook and Twitter.
DXP is a simplistic app that lets you create double exposure appeal for your company’s images.
Tilt Shift Generator provides an easy way to create that perfect tilt shift effect.
With Average Camera Pro, you can shoot your pictures — even in darker situations — and create a stunning Instagram pic.

Vintagio is similar to the aforementioned app, although this one brings a sepia effect similar to the 1970’s. It reminds me of the pictures my parents took many years ago!
Cross Process is a neat little app in its simple functionality. If you like more contrast in your photos, but don’t enjoy finding that perfect look – Cross Process is for you.
Use the Cross Process filters to mimic the look of the old school Polaroid cameras we all know and love.
Have you ever wanted to combine several photos into one, but couldn’t find the right app? Well, now you have. it!
With PicFrame, you have the ability to combine two or more images one single frame.

Tiny Planet transforms your image into — what else? — a tiny planet.
If you said “more Bokeh” when I mentioned the app above, then Bokehful will be your new best friend.
The Slow Shutter Cam magically waves a wand over your mobile device, making it a snap to capture slow shutter speeds.
I’ve always loved long exposure images, but never knew how to capture the effect. This app does the trick!
Snapseed has been my go-to photo editing app for a long time. With Snapseed, you can customize the look of your photo with many custom elements.
This may be a more advanced app initially, but it’s well worth the learning curve.
I’m a big fan of Afterlight’s simple and clean design. I am in no way a professional photographer, but I do live in a house with professional photographers.
When they appreciate (and even celebrate) photo editing app, I know I’ve found gold!

Very good work – One exhaustive list for all your graphic work, happy to see my favorite as well in this list 8mm.
Hi Praveen! Yes, that’s a great one. I have way too many favorites though. Time to narrow down that list. 😉
Gosh, Rebekah… so I’m graphically illiterate. I need to improve. I literally haven’t heard of any of these 20 tools. 🙁
That’s kind of fun Brent! It means you have a whole bunch of new toys to play around with. 🙂
Love the list Rebekah! I have used half of those already. My current fav is WordSwag. Super simple to use 🙂
Wow Dennis – you are way ahead of most. Great to hear you’ve played around with so many.
I’m with you on WordSwag. It’s my daily go-to.
Wow! Great work on putting together this article. There were a lot of photo apps I’ve never heard of. Snapseed has been one of my favorite go to apps. I will be sharing this out for sure! Thanks!
I love Snapseed as well Ed. It’s a simple app with a lot of functionality. Always fun to find new ones though, so I’m glad to hear there’s a lot on this list you haven’t tried yet.
Thanx for this information about this ‘app’s’ .
I am wondering IF there ANY option or possibility to get into “Instagram”
from my PC …?
I do not using any devices like cellphones or iphones or any alike this…..
….love creating picture-storie books ,mostly for kids,
but so far I got to know INSTAGRAM is not really allowing this from a PC ( tesk-top) ??
Does ANYONE have any idea IF or HOW I could get into Instagram….?
Thanx for any information and help with this matter .
Greetings to you all out-there !
Sylvia
Hi Sylvia – unfortunately, there’s not a way to post to Instagram via the web. It’s a mobile based app.
You can view anyone’s profile and comment on their pic from your computer, but posting isn’t an option.
Any indication for Windows Phone?
Hi Trajano! I had only looked at iPhone and Android when writing this article. However, I do know many of these are available for Windows.
Thanks for this list, Rebekah. I just started up an IG account for the company I work for, so this is really helpful.
If you had to pick your top 3 favorite or most-used apps from this list, which would you choose?
That’s fun (and exciting) Heather! My top 3 would be:
Snapseed
Aviary
8mm Vintage Camera
It will depend on what you’re looking to create for your company though. I’d play around with a few of them and see what works best.
If I might offer a couple of my favorites…
1. Color Effects (iOs)
2. Photo Art (Android)
Both of these take your color images, transform them to black & white, and then lets you choose where to add the color back into the photo with the touch of your finger. It’s the mobile version of hand coloring images… which has been my favorite thing since using colored pencils on my black & white prints way back in my undergrad photography classes.
Thanks for your suggestions Krista! I haven’t tried either one of those, but will check them out. I love the sound of both of them.
